INTRODUCTIONThe Club THE CLUBLlandaff Rowing Club in Cardiff resulted from the amalgamation in 1946 of the two clubs which had been located o the river Taff since 1879. It is now one of the top rowing clubs in Wales, with membership exceeding 300 and ranging in age from 12 to 74. Llandaff members have represented their country regularly at the Home Internationals for both England and Wales, at the Commonwealth games and at the World Masters Championships. Last year saw a Llandaff coxless four in the final at Henley Royal Regatta. Llandaff has, following a substantial grant from the Sports Lottery, created a rowing facility on the banks of the Taff in Llandaff which is the envy of most clubs in the UK. The new club house and Boat sheds are located on the site of the former Taff and Cardiff Rowing clubs and were opened in 1996 by none other than Mathew Pinsent and Steven Redgrave. Llandaff Rowing Club has not made its name solely for its rowing prowess but also for the friendly and fun loving way in which the members conduct themselves when competing at other regattas. It is not surprising therefore that Llandaff's own regatta held each year in July is particularly well attended by other clubs from as far away as London , Scotland, and on occasion from Northern Ireland. Llandaff is a friendly family orientated club and has a large number of junior members. Children are the future of the rowing club and are made very welcome at any age. The stretch of the Taff that Llandaff row on is approximately 1300 metres long with two obtuse bends in its length. Each year Llandaff hold a regatta over two days with the 1000m course on the Saturday and the 500m sprint race on the Sunday. All ARA and WARA members are welcome to participate and those interested should contact the club captain at the rowing club either by phone or by post.
