LLANDAFF DO WELL AT WOMEN'S HENLEY

The Welsh Women's lightweight coxless four got knocked out in the semi finals to Avon County who went on to win the final.  The Club's coxed four got through the first round but were beaten in the second round by Nottingham who were themselves knocked out in the semi finals.

WEATHER IS KIND FOR LLANDAFF REGATTA

Despite the awful weather forecast for the weekend, Llandaff Regatta escaped relatively unscathed from the ravishes of the rain and wind to produce another memorable event. The entries were down this year, but this has been reflected at most regattas and even at Henley this year. Llandaff did not score particularly well on Saturday but the wins to note were for John Astrup in his novice sculls (you really must see his picture), the tall men's Senior 2 four for achieving yet more success and going up to Senior 1. ( It has been said, allegedly, that they had a very lucky win over the other clubs senior 2 crew in the final..... but then the Author was particularly upset by this defeat !! ) Well done also to Becky Playle for beating a very good Kingston sculler in the women's senior 3 sculls.

On Sunday the weather was a little less kind but stayed dry most of the day. Over the 500m sprint Llandaff men collected a hoard of trophies , too many to mention here , but wins to note were the novice men's four and again John Astrup who, not satisfied with getting his Novice sculling pot on Saturday, went on to win with amazing ease the senior 3 and then the senior 2 event in the 500m sprints.

Thanks were extended by the chairman to the many sponsors for this event most notable of whom were Concept Saab and Bass Brewers. A sponsorship page will be featured next issue where interested parties can advertise on this website their association with Llandaff Rowing Club. (for a very small fee!)

Thanks must also go to all the clubs that supported us this year and I hope that the pics on the Llandaff 2000 photo page will help you all to remember the site weekend.

NOVICE SUCCESSES AT STOURPORT

Congratulations go to Alison Featherstone, Kath Williams, Nerys Davies and Roissin Wilmott in the women's Novice Four event who in a hard fought final overcame some very strong opposition  by three feet. And to Michelle Wood who not only got her novices whilst competing in a senior 2 coxless pair but also in the women's senior 1 coxed four. I am told that Michelle and the other EX novice girls who won their novices together today all started rowing at the same time in the same crew!
